Gulf Coast Shrimp and Oysters; Alaskan King Crab, Salmon, and Scallops; Gulf of Mexico Yellowfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, and Swordfish are some of the delicious offerings available to our shoppers. We can guarantee the origin and freshness of this seafood thanks to Chad Measner, the manager of Suds Koastal Kitchen and Deli and owner of South Padre Seafood. A Janesville, WI native, Chad spent the last 20 years living, sailing, fishing and cooking in South Padre Island, TX. Along the way he's earned a Coast Guard Captain's License and Bachelor's Degree in Education, as well as saving two people from drowning, driving semi trailers full of supplies to Hurricane Katrina victims, and sport-fishing and commercial fishing from the Gulf of Mexico. Now, he's back in Janesville, with his wife and three children, selling seafood wild-caught by various friends and associates from his days in south Texas. As our local farmers respect their animals and the soil that grows their crops, so do Chad and his fishermen respect the waters from which they get their seafood. They follow strict guidelines established by the Coast Guard to make sure their fishing lines and nets do not kill larger sea animals, such as dolphins and turtles. The shrimpers are careful not to destroy the ocean floor habitats with their nets. The seafood they catch is wild, and therefore more flavorful and less chemically-treated than the fish and shrimp that are farmed in Asia with minimal oversight and sent to the United States, untested for pesticides, antibiotics and fungicide residue.
